That’s when I turned to popular fiction and werewolves.
I could think of male heroes right away, but it took me a few moments to think of female ones. However, when someone asked me with which literary heroine I identified the most, I had to stop and think. In school, I remember reading many books about women's lives, relationships, and struggles. The story deals with a woman’s transformation as much as with an actual shape-shifter. Only when a werewolf materializes can she confront her past and move into a future with promise. Werewolf Nights deals with a widow that has spent seven lonely years resisting a move forward in life. In the same manner, those fears can make us behave in odd, irrational, and illogical ways. Sometimes our old unsettled fears turn into monsters that only we can perceive and that can only attack us. Horror exists, but it can't always be denounced or reported. It can help us see rage unleashed and fear embodied. But I do know that the werewolf metaphor can stretch and bend in many directions. Still, I don't have an exact answer to this question.
My werewolf movie collection expands every day. I’ve read tons of books on werewolf mythology and representation throughout the ages. I’ve always liked monsters and loved the idea of shapeshifting. It’s a question that people ask often when they hear about my novel Werewolf Nights.
